    The "Stages" of Alcoholism

    Identifying The Stages Of Alcoholism

Alcoholism is inevitably progressive and its development is actually marked by three stages: the early, middle and late stages. Intervention may be given to an individual who wishes aid in recovering from alcoholism at any stage although there may be some irreversible consequences for an individual in the middle and late stages of alcoholism.

    The early stage

Alcoholism during its first or early stage is marked clearly by alcohol dependence but this can go undetected by the people around the individual with the problematic condition. At this stage of alcoholism, the afflicted individual usually consumes excessive amounts of alcohol covertly. The alcoholic at this point may sneak beverages and gulp alcohol on the sly but will drink openly at gatherings and simply seem like a social drinker.

Individuals at this stage may actually beginning out as social drinkers but have developed alcohol dependence after too a lot consecutive happy hours compounded by other existing factors. Because they commence building up their endurance for alcohol, alcoholics at this early phase rarely appear to be drunk. Meanwhile, regular alcohol intake in public and on the sly begins to seriously grab hold of their physiology, deepening their dependence on alcoholic drinks.

Individuals at this stage are beset with feelings of guilt because at the back of their minds, they recognize their dependence on alcohol but at the same time, they don't want to be found out. They feel penitent because they enjoy doing what they know is not quite right. This is also why at this point, individuals suffering from alcoholism will refuse to talk about their drinking habits and will evade any inquiries and become defensive when prodded.

A long period of time may pass without anybody suspecting a problem for people in this stage of alcoholism precisely because true alcohol drinking patterns are kept secret and their growing endurance for alcohol makes them seem sober the bulk of the time.

    The middle stage

After staying quite some time in what clinicians consider to be the early phase of alcoholism, an individual suffering from this condition will ultimately develop deeper attachment and dependence on alcohol and move on to the middle stage of alcoholism.

At this stage, alcoholic individuals experience a total loss of control over drinking and will find themselves eating more alcohol for longer times of time and at larger quantities than they intend. This stage is also marked by clear social manifestations of the problematic condition, where the alcoholic will have greatly alleviated his regular activities to accommodate alcoholic dependence.

During the middle stage of alcoholism, strains in personal and professional relationships eventuate because of increasing instances wherein the alcoholic is not able to perform personal and professional duties because of his drinking problem. The individual, of course, at this point has moved from feelings of guilt in the early phase to deep feelings of remorse and contrition. However, despite repeatedly disappointing family, friends and colleagues, they are not able to give up or alleviate their dependence on alcohol.

Physical withdrawal symptoms are experienced whenever alcoholics try to quit at this point so they end up fluctuating between remorse and rationalizing their actions. Meanwhile, they may lose their jobs and end marriages and lose custody of the children.

    The late stage

A person in the late stage of alcoholism will express actual physiological signs of atrophy in a lot ways. Individuals in the late stage of alcoholism will manifest impaired judgment and marked cognitive deficiencies. There is Night shift can be totally fine for the body and mind. It is not prizeful for you if you couldnot adjust to it, and still have the urge to sleep at night. no guilt or remorse at this point, only morbidity and clearly disjointed cosidered functions.

Aside from cognitive brain function impairment, individuals at this stage may also have troubles with degenerative diseases like cancer, stroke and other traumas that usually influence the liver, heart, and upper digestive tract after prolonged and excessive dependence and intake of alcohol. This is why this stage is usually marked by morbidity and mortality rates are high.

The speed of progress and deterioration of individuals into alcoholism vary from case to case. Sometimes, because of remission, the intervals between each stage becomes lengthy. Whatever circumstance happens though, transition into the third and final stage of alcoholism is unavoidable if successful intervention is not achieved at the earlier stages.
